Tetris Game To Be Made Into A Hollywood Movie

It may not appear to have the same allure as other game-to-movie transitions like Tomb Raider or Resident Evil - but 80's title Tetris is heading for the big screen.

Larry Kasanoff, the chief executive of movie studio Threshold Entertainment, has confirmed that a Tetris film is in the pipeline.

He told The Wall Street Journal: "It's a very big, epic sci-fi movie.

"This isn't a movie with a bunch of lines running around the page. We're not giving feet to the geometric shapes."

Threshold Entertainment was behind the Mortal Kombat movie in 1995 which was a box office hit.

Mr Kasanoff added: "Brands are the new stars of Hollywood.

"We have a story behind Tetris which makes it a much more imaginative thing."

He said there were plans to grow the Tetris brand if the movie is a hit.

"We certainly have the canvas for location-based entertainment based on the epicness," he added, but did not reveal any more details.

This year marks 30 years since the game was created by Soviet artificial intelligence worker Alexey Pajitnov.
